The Montessori Lead Teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining a nurturing, prepared environment that aligns with Montessori philosophy and encourages independence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning in children. The Lead Teacher guides the classroom using child-centered, developmentally appropriate practices, and provides leadership and mentorship to support staff and assistants.
Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and deliver Montessori lessons in accordance with the curriculum and the needs of each child.
Maintain a clean, organized, and stimulating Montessori environment.
Observe and assess students’ development, documenting progress and adjusting lessons as needed.
Foster respectful and positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
Model and reinforce grace and courtesy in the classroom.
Supervise classroom assistants and guide them in supporting the Montessori method.
Communicate regularly with parents through meetings, reports, and informal updates.
Ensure the safety, well-being, and engagement of every child in your care.
Participate in school events, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Skills
Classroom Management: Confidently leads a group of children using clear structure and gentle guidance.
Observation & Assessment: Strong ability to observe, interpret, and respond to each child’s developmental needs.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interactions with parents, staff, and children.
Adaptability: Flexible and responsive to individual children’s needs and classroom dynamics.
Organization: Maintains a well-prepared and orderly learning environment.
Leadership: Provides mentorship and direction to classroom assistants and support staff.
Emotional Intelligence: Shows empathy, patience, and sensitivity when working with young children.
Conflict Resolution: Able to guide children and staff through problem-solving in a peaceful, respectful way.
Creativity: Brings new ideas and enrichment activities into the Montessori setting while staying true to its philosophy.
Requirement:
Montessori Certification from an accredited institution (e.g., AMI).
Experience working with children in a Montessori classroom (typically 1–3 years preferred).
Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate or equivalent (as required by local licensing regulations).
Current First Aid/CPR Certification and Criminal Record Check (or equivalent background check).
Strong understanding of child development and the Montessori philosophy.
Ability to work collaboratively with a team and support a positive classroom culture.
