Job Overview:

As a Pharmacy Assistant (NOC 33103), you will assist pharmacists in the preparation, dispensation, and management of pharmaceutical products. Your role will be essential in ensuring efficient pharmacy operations, accurate medication dispensing, and exceptional customer service. You will work closely with patients and healthcare providers to ensure medications are safely and correctly administered.

Key Responsibilities:

Medication Dispensing: Assist in the preparation and dispensing of prescription medications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.

Inventory Management: Monitor and manage inventory levels of pharmaceuticals, ensuring stock is always available and properly rotated. Assist in receiving and restocking orders.

Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by answering questions, giving over-the-counter advice, and ensuring patients understand medication usage and potential side effects.

Prescription Handling: Assist in verifying prescriptions, ensuring completeness and accuracy, and preparing medication as directed by pharmacists.

Prescription Record Keeping: Maintain detailed and accurate records of prescriptions dispensed, patient interactions, and inventory activities, following legal and privacy standards.

Pharmacy Maintenance: Ensure the pharmacy area is clean, organized, and compliant with safety and hygiene standards.

Medication Packaging: Package and label medications accurately, following prescribed instructions, and ensuring proper storage conditions.

Patient Education: Educate patients about proper medication usage, dosage, and possible side effects under the guidance of the supervising pharmacist.

Assist with Billing: Help process medication billing through insurance and assist patients with understanding their payment and insurance options.

Collaboration: Work closely with pharmacists, healthcare providers, and other pharmacy assistants to ensure smooth pharmacy operations and high-quality patient care.

Qualifications:

Education: Completion of a pharmacy assistant or technician program, or equivalent training/experience. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience: Prior experience working as a Pharmacy Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, or in a healthcare setting is preferred but not mandatory.

Knowledge: Strong understanding of pharmaceutical terminology, drug classifications, and common over-the-counter medications.

Technical Skills: Proficiency with pharmacy software and the ability to manage inventory and process prescriptions accurately.

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, pharmacists, and healthcare professionals.

Detail-Oriented: High level of attention to detail, particularly with prescription accuracy, medication labeling, and inventory management.

Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and work in a fast-paced environment.

Customer Service: Strong customer service skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.

Working Conditions:

The role may require working in shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on the pharmacy’s operational hours.

Work in a pharmacy environment with exposure to medications, chemicals, and other pharmaceutical products. Adherence to safety and infection control guidelines is essential.
