Job Duties
- Discuss the painting job with the supervisor before starting.
- Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, washing, scraping, and removing old paint.
- Fill holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster, or other fillers and sand surfaces smooth.
- Cover floors, furniture, windows, and fittings with drop sheets and masking tape to protect them from paint.
- Mix paints and stains to the required colour and thickness.
- Apply paint, primer, varnish, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
- Apply multiple coats as needed and ensure an even, clean finish.
- Paint interior walls, ceilings, doors, trims, and exterior surfaces.
- Erect and work from ladders, scaffolding, and swing stages when painting high areas.
- Estimate the amount of paint and materials needed for each job.
- Clean and maintain brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other painting tools and equipment.
- Remove paint splatters and clean the work area after the job is completed.
- Follow all health and safety rules on the work site, including the safe handling of paints, solvents, and chemicals.
- Repair minor drywall and surface damage before painting.
- Assist other trades on site with surface finishing work when required.
- Apply paint, wallpaper and other materials and finishes to interior and exterior surfaces.
