Responsibilities
Tasks
1. Discuss the painting job with the supervisor before starting.
2. Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, washing, scraping, and removing old paint.
3. Fill holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster, or other fillers and sand surfaces smooth.
4. Cover floors, furniture, windows, and fittings with drop sheets and masking tape to protect them from paint.
5. Mix paints and stains to the required colour and thickness.
6. Apply paint, primer, varnish, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
7. Apply multiple coats as needed and ensure an even, clean finish.
8. Paint interior walls, ceilings, doors, trims, and exterior surfaces of residential and commercial buildings.
9. Erect and work from ladders, scaffolding, and swing stages when painting high areas.
10. Estimate the amount of paint and materials needed for each job.
11. Clean and maintain brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other painting tools and equipment.
12. Remove paint splatters and clean the work area after the job is completed.
13. Follow all health and safety rules on the work site, including the safe handling of paints, solvents, and chemicals.
14. Repair minor drywall and surface damage before painting.
15. Assist other trades on site with surface finishing work when required.
16. Apply paint, wallpaper and other materials and finishes to interior and exterior surfaces.
