We provide immigration services and representation to wide array of individual and corporate clients. As we grow our clientele and expand into new markets, we are seeking the services of experienced and qualified Immigration Legal Assistants to join our dedicated team.
The ideal candidate is one who has vast experience in working within the immigration space and is very knowledgeable on the provisions and workings of the Canadian immigration system including dealings with the Federal Court of Canada, Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada, Canadian Border Services Agency, Employment and Service Development Canada and the varion Provincala and Territorial Immigration Programs. The candidate must also possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, pays attention to detail and be culturally sensitive. They must also be able to communicate effectively with clients.
Job Description:
- Opening and closing client files and preparation of engagement letters, agreements,contracts and other legal documents.
- Providing support and assistance to our Immigration Lawyers and Consultant in thearea of preparing legal documents, reviewing case file, and preparation of immigrationapplication forms.
- Setting up application profiles with both Federal and Provincial immigrationapplication streams.
- Communicating with the clients and preparing draft correspondence for review bylawyers and consultant
- Filing and service of immigration applications and appeals at the Federal Court and theImmigration and Refugee board of Canada (IRB).
- Attend meetings and hearing at court and IRB take notes and minutes.
- Proof reading and review documents and correspondence, to ensure adherence to ourfirm's practice guidelines.
- Conducting legal research on varying immigration matters including case law andimmigration legislation.
- Maintain a proper filing system to ensure ease of management of immigration files andto maintain confidentiality.
- Manage the office calendar and scheduling system to ensure that appointments,meetings, engagements are properly diarized to avoid clashes.
- Manage information flow by fielding phone calls and emails.
- Transcribe correspondence and legal documents from local West African languages,digital recordings or handwritten notes.
- Assist with ongoing client meetings and contact clients to obtain relevant caseinformation.
- Attend meetings, take notes and briefs, and prepare minute of meetings.
- Stay well-informed of changes in immigration laws and regulations.
- Communicating with persons outside the firm, representing the firm to clients, thepublic, government, and other external entities.
- Any other work or duty that may be assigned to the Employee by the Employer, fromtime to time.
- College, CEGEP or equivalent experience.
- Previous study in law or paralegal training will be a major asset.
- Proven work experience as a legal assistant or paralegal in immigration, is an asset.
Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years
