Job Summary: The Indo-Chinese Cuisine Chef is responsible for overseeing and directing our kitchen operations and ensuring that our specialty Hakka dishes are prepared and cooked authentically and in a timely manner. The right candidate will bring hands-on culinary expertise to deliver high quality food and service to our customers in a fast-paced environment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Plan, direct, and execute food preparation and cooking according to customer needs;
- Oversee, advise, and provide training to cooks and other kitchen staff to ensure compliance with safety standards and adherence to high quality food preparation practices;
- Prepare and cook Indo-Chinese dishes using authentic ingredients, spices, food preparation techniques, and recipes;
- Work with ingredients, such as meats, vegetables, spices, and rice, and use specialty cooking equipment;
- Adapt dishes for customers with specialty diets, allergies, or intolerances;
- Ensure consistent and high quality food preparation and presentation according to Oakville Hakka House’s standards;
- Participate in planning new menus and creating new recipes;
- Regularly track, check, and organize restaurant inventory to ensure that food and kitchen supplies are adequately stocked;
- Place orders with vendors for ingredients and cooking supplies when necessary;
- Ensure proper food handling procedures are followed during the cooking process and that all food products are safely stored;
- Ensure kitchen and storage areas are maintained and cleaned according to health and safety standards; and
- Other duties as required.
Minimum Skills Requirements:
- Completion of secondary school is required;
- At least 1 year of work experience as a Chef, or 3-5 years of work experience as a Cook is required;
- Knowledge of and experience in preparing and cooking Indo-Chinese/Hakka cuisine is required;
- Prior supervisory experience in a kitchen environment or completion of a related post-secondary certificate, diploma, or training program is strongly preferred but not required;
- Certification from the Ontario College of Trades is not required;
- Must be dependable, reliable, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment; and
- Must have a professional attitude and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
