Skills Requirements:
- Education: Completion of Secondary/High School Graduation Certificate is required
- Work experience: 1 month to less than 7 months of experience as a child care provider – in home is required or completion of a training program in child care or a related field is required.
- First Aid and CPR Certification is required
Job Duties:
- Provide attentive, responsible, and nurturing care for school-aged children in the employer’s private home, ensuring a safe and supportive environment at all times.
- Ensure children’s safety, well-being, and emotional comfort through close supervision during daily routines and activities.
- Plan, prepare, and serve nutritious vegetarian South Asian meals and snacks in accordance with dietary requirements, parental instructions, and culturally appropriate food practices.
- Assist the children with daily routines, including personal hygiene, dressing, and age-appropriate self-care.
- Oversee and structure the children’s daily and after-school schedule, including homework support, meal times, rest periods, and recreational activities tailored to both children’s interests.
- Encourage positive behavior, emotional well-being, and social development through consistent guidance and reinforcement.
- Engage the children in educational and culturally enriching activities, such as reading age-appropriate Sikh religious books and story books, storytelling, arts and crafts, and activities that promote understanding of Canadian and Sikh/Indian traditions and customs.
- Safely transport the children to and from school and to extracurricular activities as required
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment related to the children’s care, including tidying play areas, kitchen space after meal preparation, and the children’s personal belongings.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding the children’s daily activities, behavior, dietary intake, and any health-related observations.
- Follow parental guidance regarding discipline, cultural practices, dietary routines, and overall caregiving approach to ensure consistency in the children’s upbringing.
