We are looking for a well-experienced Ethnic Food Cook – Curry to work for Sula Indian Restaurant Commercial Drive, 1128 Commercial Drive, Vancouver, BC, V5L 3X2, Canada.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and cook traditional Indian curry dishes using region-specific bases such as onion-tomato, cashew, yogurt, and coconut gravies.

  • Independently manage the curry station during service, producing multiple curry orders simultaneously under high-volume conditions.

  • Prepare and balance core Indian masalas and spice blends, including dry and wet masalas, ensuring consistent flavour across batches.

  • Cook and finish curries using traditional Indian techniques such as bhuna, dum, and slow simmering to achieve proper texture and depth.

  • Perform daily mise en place specific to Indian curry preparation, including tempering spices, grinding pastes, and pre-cooking gravies.

  • Coordinate curry timing with rice, naan, and tandoor items to ensure synchronized plating and service.

  • Adjust heat levels, spice intensity, and seasoning to suit customer preferences while preserving authentic Indian flavour profiles.

  • Monitor curry quality throughout service by tasting and checking consistency, oil separation, and doneness in real time.

  • Follow strict food safety and hygiene practices when handling spices, dairy, meats, and cooked gravies, including temperature control and allergen awareness.

  • Train and guide kitchen helpers on Indian curry preparation methods, station organization, and portion standards.

 

Prerequisites:

 

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent

Experience & Skills: 5 years or more in the Food Industry or equivalent.

Language: English

 

Hourly Rate: $36.60 to $38.00 for 30 to 40 Hours per week

Starting Date: As soon as possible

Terms of Employment: Fulltime and permanent
