Job Title: Long Haul Truck Driver

Location:  24 Hall Crescent Brampton, Ontario L6X 3J7

Salary:  $36.50/hour / 35 – 40 hours per week

Job requirements: 

Languages: English

Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate

Experience: 1 to 2 years of relevant experience is required

Licence: A Class 1 or A licence is required to drive long combination vehicles.

Specific Skills: 

• Drive heavy-duty trucks and tractor-trailers weighing more than 4,500 kg to move goods across long distances
• Map out travel routes ahead of time and make sure all required paperwork is in order before hitting the road
• Check the vehicle thoroughly before, during, and after each trip covering tires, brakes, lights, signals, and any refrigeration units
• Load and secure freight properly to meet safety standards, and follow the correct procedures when carrying hazardous materials
• Apply for special permits and gather the necessary documents when crossing international borders
• Keep detailed records of what was hauled, hours driven, distance covered, and fuel used throughout each trip
• Handle shipping documents and keep logbooks up to date, either on paper or through electronic logging devices
• Stay in regular contact with dispatchers, customers, and other drivers via radio, phone, or onboard systems
• Handle minor mechanical issues or breakdowns on the road when they come up
• Team up with another driver for extended trips or travel in convoy when the job calls for it
• Safely transport regulated or dangerous goods when assigned, following all relevant rules and guidelines
